Cape Town Production Loft After 2 decades of sail making
Jan Reuvers joined the Quantum Sail Design Group in 1998
after visiting the United States, where he was highly
impressed with the Quantum group's dedicated approach to
sailmaking and innovative design facilities.
A former Springbok sailor, with vast experience in
sailmaking, which included running the Doyle and earlier
the Sobstad lofts in Cape Town, Reuvers then began
operating two lofts under the Quantum banner, one in
Cape Town and a second facility in Durban to enable the
group to have a national footprint in South Africa.
The Cape operation, which now has three lofts plus
the membrane manufacturing facilty, is a large
state-of-the-art facility, which produces sails for
multihulls and keelboats of all sizes. A further
facility for the manufacture and construction of a
sophisticated filament-reinforced laminate cloth is
currently under development.
The Durban loft, with a highly experienced team
headed by globe-circling racing skipper Craig Millar
specializes in sails for the world's leading one-design
keelboats and racing dinghies.
The success of Quantum Sails South Africa, which now
exports to sailing nations worldwide, is based on two
main ingredients; attention to detail and key people who
love both sailing and the sailmaking process.
Quantum South Africa blends the latest technology
with the legacy of handmade craftsmanship, backed by
rigorous inspection procedures, to ensure that our sails
stand the test of time from the moment they are first
hoisted. All our craftsmen, from those responsible for
designing and manufacturing our award winning sails, to
our knowledgable sales staff are all experienced
yachtsmen, for whom sailing is both a science and a
passion.
With over 70 employees countrywide we are proud to be
able to service all our client's needs, both those in
South Africa and abroad.
